The entire NM community makes me want to punch an infant!
Yeah!
Its been an interesting show to watch; I registered in September of '05, according to my profile, and I've casually observed as more and more people joined and participated in the NaturalMotion forums. I can remember having to copy and paste the system requirements for the LE into the 'Issues' forum many times, as well as being scolded when I had forgotten to give credits when using someone else's character in a scene. But somewhere between '06 and '07, the entire NM community was overcome by an unexpected wave of STUPID. Grammar was nonexistent, so many scenes were posted, the consisted of one standard sim character, falling on top of another- the kicker to these was the author would ask for advice on how to improve the scene. Of course, I, myself kind of disappeared from the forums, other things were more important at the time; and upon my return, I was greeted with an endless sea of threads about wrestling.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with Endorphin being used to simulate wrestling scenes; in fact, it is probably the best program out there for this sort of thing. But it kind of bothers me when people begin referring to Endorphin as "Taht wrestling gaem," when it can be used for so much more! Adding to the wonderful mix of people now obsessing over Endorphin wrestling, were the formation of clans and guilds and silly little organization of whatever name, these somewhat promoted competition, and elitism, and it was just a mess to me. I continued making my characters, and props, but never posted any of them. When I did post one; I was immediately accused of stealing from a tutorial scene. I wasn't aware that the tutorial in question existed, much less how to steal from it, seeing as how copy/paste doesn't work from scene to Character edit. Ah well. Its the internet, and its serious business.
It's clear that NaturalMotion wasn't expecting such a large increase in the community, probably the reasoning behind assigning the moderators as they did. But I am puzzled, absolutely dumbfounded over the idea of the reputation system in place. There is no reason, NO REASON, to give the unthinking masses the option to affect another poster, given the choice between a negative and a positive affect. Their comments should be enough, and to me; "Nice wurk +rep" isn't much of a comment, there's no reason to say what they liked about the scene, or what could be improved. Concise is not always the way to go when writing a response, and when the OP asks for input, "Nice wurk +rep" won't tell them how to tweak the active pose to a long blend time. "Nice wurk +rep" doesn't tell a new member how to use a transition event. "Nice wurk +rep" only accents the poster's ability to send an unthinking response and better fit themselves into the mass of idiots constantly being slapped on the wrist by the moderators.
So! It is an unpleasant thing to see a community of only a handful of folks dedicated to helping each other, boil into a large group of children and immature dolts who are only interested in some +rep. It is frustrating to sift through thread after thread of "Hwo do i get the guy to wrestle," in the new members forum; to maybe find someone with a genuine problem; someone who has read the goddamn tutorials, and just can't quite get this thing right, due to lack of experience.
This forum in itself is a good thing for giving someone someplace to rant about something. :E

I can't fault you on any of those points. NM has become a popular sespit for the simple minded and tweenagers (actual spelling; it's a psychographic group). It still occupies my free time though, which is a godsend if my friends are occupied and I'm bored of gaming.
The only thing I can imagine anyone else lingering around for is the prize competitions, which to be fair are considerably frequent compared to back in '06.

Re: The entire NM community makes me want to punch an infant!
I think that considering the ever increasing amount of 12 year old twats joining the community every day, the amount of users compared to back then and the fact the NaturalMotion staff are far busier than they've ever been, plus the fact that Hobbes said that mods ARE needed in the current climate ALL lead to the conclusion that we still need moderators.Damaster123c wrote:No mod's i mean really what is the point?

Re: The entire NM community makes me want to punch an infant!
well the rep problem itself is that users gets a god-like feeling when they get rep
and they are abusing the rep system
i think the rep idea is good but people cant handle it
if all members was as mature as the older members rep would not be a problem.
also new members usually just say "cool scene +rep"
because it is more comfortable than giving some hardcore critisism
and some may be afraid of telling theire opinion because they think they are gonna get yelled at for theire incompetens or something.
but i agree fully for the flood of new members wrestling scenes.
makes me wanna travel back in time before we got flooded with n00bs and when endorphin was fun.
i guess i have to wait till the wrestling-mania is washed away and the new members gets bored and leaves.
hopefully when that time comes there will not only be me left with a handfull of new guys.
